On the evening of the 16th, a 55-year-old American passenger, Michael Travis Halyard, on an All Nippon Airways (ANA) flight from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport to Seattle was arrested on suspicion of assault for biting a female stewardess. The incident forced the aircraft to return to Haneda Airport.
According to an ANA spokesperson, the intoxicated male passenger bit the arm of a cabin crew member, causing minor injuries.
According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, Halyard is suspected of becoming upset when asked to take his seat, leading to the biting incident. Subsequently, he was restrained by the crew.
Halyard reportedly admitted to having taken sleeping pills and claimed to have no recollection of the events that transpired during the flight.
The incident occurred on ANA Flight 118 over the Pacific Ocean, carrying 159 passengers, including the male suspect. ANA confirmed that the man was handed over to the police.
