On December 1, The Imperial Household Agency released photographs of the cat named Mimi (美海), which the Imperial Family began having her in August.
Mimi is a female calico cat. Last August, when she was four and a half months old, The Family adopted her from a rescue organization via a veterinary hospital. The name Mimi, meaning ‘beautiful sea’, was chosen by the family, wishing for the beautiful sea that symbolizes the planet.
The Imperial Household had previously had two cats, named ‘Mii’ and ‘Seven’, but ‘Mii’ passed away last summer. It was decided to take in ‘Mimi’ to prevent the remaining ‘Seven’ from feeling lonely. The Agency has also released a photograph of ‘Seven’.
Today, The Princess Aiko celebrated her 24th birthday. In details released by the agency, it was noted that she cherishes tow cats, with the agency stating, ‘Time spent with them provides moments of peace and tranquility.’
