In November 2024, a Canadian captain was arrested for causing an accident at sea near Tsushima City by running his yacht onto a floating raft, endangering the crew on board.

The suspect, 46-year-old Lee Wooseok, a Canadian National, was arrested on suspicion of professional negligence endangering maritime traffic.

According to the Tsushima Maritime Security Office, in November 2024, while piloting a yacht from South Korea to Izuhara Port in Tsushima, Lee allegedly put six crew members in danger.

Authorities had been investigating the incident voluntarily, but Lee repeatedly failed to comply with requests to appear for questioning. Upon receiving information that he would be arriving in Okinawa on the 25th, officials arrested him there.

The Tsushima Maritime Security Office plans to further investigate Lee regarding the incident.
