Hen Ten Lee, a 24-year-old Malaysian national, was sent to prosecutors on October 1. He is suspected of conspiring with accomplices to impersonate a police officer and defrauding an 80-year-old woman in Fukushima City out of 8.5 million yen (approximately USD 57,000). Hen is believed to have acted as a “receiver,” someone tasked with collecting the money, and was arrested after re-entering Japan from Malaysia.
According to investigators, Hen had entered Japan multiple times for short stays, indicating he may have repeatedly traveled to Japan with the intent of committing fraud. The police are also investigating the possibility that Hen received instructions from an overseas fraud group, possibly through social media.
