The Iwakuni Police Station in Yamaguchi Prefecture re-arrested a 21-year-old corporal from the U.S. Army Iwakuni base on suspicion of theft for stealing a light passenger car in a parking lot in Iwakuni City.
The corporal is suspected of getting into an unlocked light passenger car that was left running in a convenience store parking lot around 12:07 AM on February 11th and driving away. He has admitted to the charge.
The woman who owned the car witnessed the incident and called 110, reporting that “a drunk foreigner got into the car and drove away.” There was also a 110 call reporting that the car had crashed into a telephone pole on a nearby road and that the foreign driver had fled.
The corporal was arrested by the police at around 12:20 AM on the same day on suspicion of breaking and entering into an apartment in the city. On the 4th, the Yamaguchi District Public Prosecutor’s Office Iwakuni branch decided to hold the case for further review.
