Two Sri Lankan men were arrested on suspicion of stealing approximately 1,200 meters of power cables from a solar power facility in Yuza Town.

The suspects, both residents of Ibaraki Prefecture, have been identified as Karnanayaka Gurunnanserage Don Madushanka Lakshan (39) and Riyana Wadge Dananjaya Gayashan (33).

According to the police, the two are suspected of stealing around 1,200 meters of power cables, valued at approximately 5.06 million yen. Police have declined to comment on whether the suspects admit or deny the charges.

The two allegedly cut the cables, which were about 3 centimeters in diameter, using tools, transported them by vehicle, and later sold them to a metal recycling business in Ibaraki Prefecture.

A similar theft was reported in April last year at a facility in Yonezawa City, and police are investigating possible connections between the cases.
