In Kurume City five high school boys and girls were arrested for luring out a man they met on social media, assaulting him, and stealing his wallet and smartphone.
The five high school students, who live in Yanagawa City and other areas of Fukuoka Prefecture, were arrested on suspicion of robbery.
According to the police, the five conspired to assault a 19-year-old man on the banks of the Chikugo River in Kurume City by pinning his head down with a knee before stealing his wallet and smartphone.
The 19-year-old victim had met a 17-year-old high school girl from the group on social media and was lured to the riverside, where four other boys were waiting.
The five suspects were acquaintances. During the police investigation, one of the boys denied the charges, saying, “I didn’t steal anything.”
The remaining four admitted to the charges, with some saying, “We wanted money.”
