A 28-year-old Vietnamese woman living in Yachiyo City, was arrested for ordering a microwave oven, purchased through fraudulent means.

According to the arrest, she is suspected of conspiring with an unknown party to use the credit card number of a woman in her 60’s living in Kanagawa Prefecture, to purchase a microwave oven through an online shopping site. The item was delivered to the suspect’s home, and she allegedly received it on September 1 of the same year. During questioning, she reportedly said, “I was doing a part-time job forwarding packages. I didn’t know it was purchased with someone else’s credit card.”

According to the Hyogo Prefectural Police Cybercrime Division, the purchaser’s name on the online order was in the woman’s name, and she had forwarded the package to a company in the Kanto region on September 2.

The woman explained that she started the package-receiving part-time job through a friend’s introduction. Investigators found images of package delivery slips and exchanges with a coordinator on social media on her seized smartphone. The police suspect there was another person giving her instructions, and they are treating it as an organized crime case.

The Cybercrime Division had already searched the woman’s residence in October last year during an investigation into a separate credit card fraud case that occurred in the prefecture. That search led to the discovery of her involvement in this fraudulent microwave delivery.
