A shocking incident in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward has once again made headlines as an eighth resale accomplice has been arrested in connection to the theft of cash and accessories worth 25 million yen. The suspect, Ayame Kitamura, has been accused of reselling precious metals from the stolen items and has admitted to the allegations during questioning.
The Shibuya heist, which occurred in April in Shibuya’s Jingu-mae district, involved three individuals who executed the theft of 25 million yen worth of cash and accessories from an accessory store. Since then, eight resale accomplices have been arrested, including Ayame Kitamura, who is the latest to face charges.
According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, Kitamura had resold around 160,000 yen worth of precious metals from the stolen items. During questioning, Kitamura admitted to the allegations and also mentioned that she had applied for a clandestine job through social media.
The police are still looking for the 96 pieces of accessories that remain unrecovered and are investigating the individuals who gave instructions in the case. With the new arrest of Kitamura, it is possible that the investigation may soon be able to uncover more details about the theft and recover the remaining stolen items.
