Between June 9th and July 5th of this year, a woman acting as a recruiter for illicit part-time jobs on social media was apprehended. She’s been arrested on suspicion of violating the Labor Standards Act. This marks the first case in the country where a recruiter for illicit gigs using social media has been detained in such a manner.

The arrest was made on a 26-year-old unemployed woman residing in Kochi Prefecture. According to the police, between June 9th and July 5th this year, the woman posted multiple times on an old Twitter account, using terms like “Looking for gig-takers” and “Paying 100,000 to 300,000 yen in rewards.” She is suspected of recruiting people for illegal jobs involving activities like special fraud schemes. It’s reported that she repeated such posts more than 100 times. The police haven’t confirmed her response to these allegations, citing the possibility of an organized crime involvement that could hinder the investigation.

This case is believed to be the first in the country where someone recruiting for illicit side jobs via social media has been arrested on suspicion of violating the Labor Standards Act.
